This spring we got a new Bassett Hound!

Staying with our philosophy we adopted him from a local Bassett Rescue Organization (AzBHR).  His name is Emmett and he is 8 years young.  What is interesting about Emmett is that he was one day away from being put to sleep.  The shelter that he originally came from puts 150 dogs down a day!!

When we say he is 8 yrs young, we mean it!  He looks and acts several years younger leading us to believe they may have made a mistake.  Ernie, our other Bassett rescue, looks older than they believed him to be.  He has grayed over night and is certainly showing the signs of the Golden Years!

Unlike Ernie, who had some issues coming from such a traumatic background, Emmett is well adjusted and has a perfect personality.  He is 100% hound and is all head and no body as can be seen by the pictures.  He has so much extra skin that when he barks half of his jowls end up in his mouth causing him to look very comical until he shakes them out.

Two rescue dogs are about all we can handle in our house though, so we are finished with the big pets.  I am however, always on the hunt for larger aquarium deals and to eventually get into saltwater tanks.  This takes knowledge more than time if it is to be done right.  Once the chemical balances are under control, the discipline of monitoring and maintaining them proves to be less time consuming than fixing a problem due to neglect.  Both Laurel and I and now Kaden and August love the ocean so much it would be nice to have a piece of it in the house.
